Looking for an upscale restaurant for that special occasion? I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite restaurants in Portland that are either vegan or have great vegan options so you can celebrate that special moment with your loved ones.
All Vegan
Feral
Named best new vegan restaurant in VegNews, Feral sits along the latest vegan block along with Mis Tacones, Orange & Blossom, and even a vegan tattoo shop called Upper Moon Tattoo.
Here you’ll enjoy creative dishes that rotate in a cozy, intimate atmostphere. Their menu focuses on using seasonal and foraged ingredients. Creating delicious dishes such as lion’s mane steak, lobster mushroom ‘seafood’ broil and more. It is a favorite of mine to go to in Portland and I’ve even brought many non-vegans here who have enjoyed their menu. It is also an ideal place for dessert which also rotates. Reservations are highly recommended.
Adelleda
Adelleda is a new, vegan pasta and cocktail restaurant in Portland, Oregon, that evolved from the Unwind food cart and shares a space with Vtopian Artisan Cheese Shop. It features fresh, seasonal pastas and vegetable-forward small plates using locally-sourced and wild-foraged ingredients. They also have a great, creative bar program with vinyl, and an inviting atmosphere. Some key items you’ll find on their menu include handmade pastas like agnolotti and bucatini, as well as small plates such as arancini and fried Brussels sprouts. The bar program offers a creative selection of cocktails.
Astera
This entirely vegan restaurant is the brain child of Chef Aaron Adams, who created the famed Fermenter in Portland. You can enjoy a set menu on Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays with dishes that are beautifully plated and are made with local ingredients. Even the olive oil! This is reservations only and is a must for a one-of-a-kind dining experience where you can see the chefs at work with their open kitchen concept.

Vegan Friendly
Mestizo
The word “Mestizo” means “mixed race”, therefore you’ll find a combination of delicious flavors from different parts of the world. Particularly, Latin America. At Mestizo, their plates are meant to be shared and they have delicious vegan options. Like their coconut ceviche, tostones, fried banana flower tacos and more. They have an incredible cocktail/mocktail menu, which makes it a great place to come and celebrate with loved ones. Mestizo also offers a great brunch on the weekends if you want to come during the day.
***Reservations highly recommended, especially for large groups

República
For a memorable dining experience, República will give you a meal like no other. They have a Mexico-forward chef’s tasting menu, with each dish presented to you like a work of art. The servers do an incredible job of sharing with you the story behind each dish. When making your reservation, share that you are vegan and they do a great job of accommodating each dish for vegans without feeling like you’re missing out. The menu is 5 courses including dessert (there was a vegan option) and other special little surprises in between.

Lechon is a restaurant located inside one of Portland's historic buildings downtown. The menu is South American inspired. Creating classic South American dishes with a NW twist. They also have a great vegan/vegetarian menu which includes mushroom salado, their vegan take on the Peruvian dish, lomo saltado. They have great vegan ceviches and other dishes. They even have a vegan and gluten-free lava cake! This is a great date night spot or for any special occasion!
Kann
Kann was named Portland restaurant of the year by Portland Monthly Magazine and The Oregonian, one of the 50 Best Restaurants in America by the New York Times and Best New Restaurant by Esquire Magazine. This Haitian and West African restaurant, owned by Gregory Gourdet, a James Beard Award Winner and a celebrity chef, has created a menu that is dairy and gluten-free. They use seasonal, local ingredients to create classic Haitian and West African dishes and have incredible desserts as well.
